I just finished Anne McCaffrey's latest Freedom book...I'm moving onto S.M. Stiling's "The Peshawar Lancers"...I love alternate history fiction...

Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchet. I misread the recommendation on the back as, "If Terry Pratchett is not yet in an institution, he should be." I thought that was great, and entirely appropriate. Turns out there is no 'in'. Bah. But that's okay, because the book itself is amusing.

Nothing But Blue Skies, by Tom Holt. He writes a lot like Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.

Otherland, by Tad Williams. My sister just gave it to me tonight, for no other reason than I'd said he was a good author in the store other day. Have yet to see if it will measure up to Memory, Sorrow and Thorn.

See, I have the Player's Handbook, the Forgotten Realms book, the Master's of the Wild book, but I'm holding off on actually getting the DM guide until the 3.5 edition comes out. Also, I'm a sort of active participant on a Forgotten Realms message board. So I'm a much bigger dork than you are.

As for literature, I just finished Angel of Darkness, by Charles De Lint (written under the pen name "Samuel Keys") It's much darker than the stuff he published under his own name, but I really liked it. He's one of those writers that is able to hold true to what he's trying to say with showing us the dark side of humanity, instead of just getting caught up in a fascination with that darkness.

Right now I'm reading "Summon the Keeper" by Tanya Huff... who's stuff I absolutely adore. Dan read the back blurb, and commented that it sounded like a saner version of Douglas Adams... and after reading the first couple chapters, I'd have to agree with him.

This schoolwork has cut into my reading time, so I'm still working my way through VENGEANCE IS MINE!, the third book in THE MIKE HAMMER COLLECTION VOL. 1 by Mickey Spillane.

Hey...I wish there were at least people around here to play the game...I don't even have that much so I can't quite make it to full dork status...I just leaf through my old guides occasionally...

And Orenda...if you liked Memory, Sorrow and Thorn...I'm sorry. No really...I was SOOOOO bored by the first book I couldn't continue on...but if you liked them go and get George RR Martin's A song of Ice and Fire RIGHT NOW! It's better than Williams or Jordan and some say it's better than Tolkien (in it's own modern way)...

I have Harry Turtledove's Ruled Britannia waiting in the wings, among other books...

Not to turn the book thread into a gaming thread, but Jax, have you tried checking at your local gaming/comic store to see if there are people who are looking to start or add to a gaming group? My DM's from Chicago, he says that's the best way to find a new gaming group.

Also, if any of you are interested in playing in the Forgotten Realms setting, check out Master Ao's . They are an excellent group of people, full of information. And some of them even know me in rl, and can be bribed.

Just finished reading Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson, not as funny as his travel books but very educational and just proves what a silly language English is.

Am now reading Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett, is really funny and I am racing thru it.
